Roberto Henriquez Molino del Ciego

Semillon is one of the forgotten varietals in Chile, having been in the southern Itata Valley for hundreds of years. Disdained as a poor man's variety, it is young winemakers like Roberto Henríquez who are helping revive old traditions while also taking them to new heights. Using 90-year-old vines growing in the coastal area of Coelumu, this is one of those wines you must try before you die. Technically an 'orange' wine (when skins are kept on for longer in white wine-making process), it has none of the bitterness usually associated with these types of wine. In fact, it is bursting with flowers, fruit and a creamy texture, which seem to reach greater heights with each sip. A natural wine, if kept for five years would be even better, but who can wait that long?
